Hello All!

As a student who is currently in college, I have seen so many of my friends (myself included) try to find different ways of generating income all while striving to attain an education.

This tricky balance no doubt is something that should be learned and mastered as no one wants to be completely miserable during this point in their life! Of course, it is important to get your education so that one day you can use those skills to hopefully live out your dreams, but you still need to survive all the while!

Yes it’s easy to go out and get a job during college, but where’s the fun in that? Not to mention, not a lot of students have the time that is needed to dedicate 8 hour shifts to a large portion of their day.

Keeping that in mind, I have strength tested 5 ideas which I’ve endured during my college existence and hope you will be able to use them in your own lives. These 5 ideas are meant to be ways that enable you to still focus mainly on your education, however have a side stream of income flowing in all the while. Maybe even find some fulfillment in what you’re doing while you’re at it!

1. Charge for your Creative Services

This in my opinion may be the most fulfilling of the options. I believe that creating and producing are both two things essential to attaining purpose in this life. I also believe that you shouldn’t be doing anything that makes you miserable.

Enter, charging for your creative services.

Now more than ever, creatives are needed to help other people market their points across to others. The exploitation of the digital marketplace as an effect of COVID-19 has boomed the creative design industry like no other.

Because of this, there is HUGE potential for creatives out there who contain artistic and creative ability. Whether you hold knowledge on video editing or logo design, there is something out there for everyone.

So make sure to post your work online! Let people know that you are selling your creative services. Many will pay large amounts of money if they believe that you contain creative insights that are an essential part of their business or brand (I know I have).

2. Market Your Skills and Passions

Any passions that you have in life, whether it be something involving technology or maybe even carpentry, has potential to pay you for carrying them out. Many of the skills and bits of knowledge that you have learned are essential to others that don’t have those capabilities.

If you enjoy the computer industry for example, you could market yourself as someone who can help others with their computer building needs.

Think about this, if you charge someone $300 for your time, which includes finding the parts and putting the computer completely together, you have successfully attained another $300 for that month for probably 5 hours of work total.

Word spreads fast, especially if you did a good job, so chances are that those numbers will go up over time. Consider spending $15 on business cards which describe your skills, and hand them out to people that you know! You’d be surprised how many will reach out in need of your services.

3. Buy and Sell things on eBay

I personally did this one for the entire year that COVID-19 restrictions were in effect. Due to the fact that I couldn’t be at work, I quickly got creative with how I was making my money every month.

For the last 21 years of my life, my dad has established a lucrative side hustle buying and selling undervalued items on eBay. So, using the knowledge that I’ve learned from him, I decided to do the same thing. It turned out to be a great way to pull in another couple hundred dollars every month, and the potential behind this concept is completely dependent upon how much time you are willing to put into this.

The way that this is done is by looking at which items are most trending on that specific platform. Consider things like…

  • Shipping Costs
  • Price Range
  • eBay and PayPal fees

I found that the best way for me to make money was to find items which were severely underpriced and then resell them for more. This seems to be the case mainly in goods like trading cards, computer parts, video games, and clothing, however there’s many other types of items you could consider as well.

4. Build a Bitcoin Mining Rig

This by far is the most passive way of generating money on the list. With the boom of cryptocurrency, mining crypto has actually become a viable source of generating a substantial amount of revenue every month.

One graphics card for example, costs around $600, however it will make you on average $200 a month. On an even larger scale, a 6 GPU mining rig can generate profits of $1100 a month. JUST FOR RUNNING A SOFTWARE.

For those of you who are a little more tech savvy or are willing to learn, this is a great way to delve into a project which will broaden not only your income but also your knowledge.

If you have an extra 1 to 2 grand that you’ve been looking to invest but don’t really know where, I wrote an article which dives deep into how you can get started mining cryptocurrency and the parts that you’ll need to build the rig.

5. Consider Developing Skills for Freelancing

For many of those who travel around the world, freelancing has been a great way for them to be able to do what they love without being tied down to one specific job. The crucial part about this, especially for a college student, is it’s all on your time.

People and Businesses around the world are looking for people who have specific skills which they do not want to do themselves. Whether it be jobs like…

  • Website Designer
  • Social Media Manager
  • Scribe
  • Article Writer

The possibilities are plentiful when it comes to freelancing and it is a great way to be able to generate new skills all while being on your own time schedule. Of course, some of these will pay more than others so it is essential that you find the right skill for your monetary needs.
